Surge in Coronavirus Cases Forces Malaysia into Phase 1 Lockdown

On the heels of a record-level virus outbreak, the Malaysian government has officially imposed an immediate Phase 1 Full Movement Control Order (FMCO). The nationwide lockdown will span June1-14 and will allow only essential services to operate.

On Saturday, Malaysia saw a record daily rise in cases now reaching 9,020 and reports (June 3) 103 new COVID-19 deaths, marking a second consecutive day with more than 100 deaths.

Essential economic and service sectors including Food & Beverage, Healthcare, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Packaging & Printing, Medical Equipment Components will remain operational with 60% of the workforce in place. However, essential individual travel is limited to a 10 km radius and limited to certain household members. The reduced workforce capacity and strict lockdown could add a new level of stress to an already strained logistics sector.
