Over the last few months, several changes were made to the tariff structure related to goods imported into the US. We've summarized several key initiatives, and the associated impact expected throughout the summer and beyond.  However, it remains important to note, timelines and specific rates continue to be subject to ongoing negotiations and changes. This is a developing story. 

Though the current risk to the general population remains low, humans who are exposed to potentially infected animals are at moderate to high risk of infection for H5N1 (Bird Flu). Those who may be exposed, including poultry workers, dairy workers, food processing workers, animal caregivers, veterinarians, zoo, and other wildlife facility workers should take additional steps to reduce exposure and curb the spread.

After promises of increased border security by both Mexico and Canada, President Trump has paused tariffs to both countries for a period of at least 30 days. Originally scheduled to go into effect February 4, the pause provides a temporary reprieve from what would have been a 25% tariff on most imports from Mexico and Canada, and a 10% tariff specific to energy sources such as natural gas and crude oil. 

For Vanguard Safety, 2024 “Growth and Opportunity” became a recurrent theme. We added several new products to our PPE portfolio including coveralls, chemical resistant reusable gloves and cut-resistant gloves. We opened a new warehouse in the Southeast and added additional team members in key customer service and sales positions to help our distribution partners grow their end-user business.

What will happen to tariffs in 2025 and what can businesses and consumers expect? While the exact impact of the change remains uncertain, 2025 will certainly be a pivotal year for global trade.
